It will soon be Shrove Tuesday, which can mean only one thing: The beginning of Lent? Nope. Pancake Day! And just because you’re a coeliac doesn’t mean you should miss out all that sugary-lemony loveliness.

Mrs Crimble’s Pancake Mix has made the whole pancake malarkey as easy as possible. Just add water and milk, whisk and pour into a hot frying pan.

I was a little over zealous with my pouring so it came out a little thicker than is ideal. But once it was covered in chocolate, who cares? And of course, as with all things Mrs Crimble it tasted just like the ‘real’ thing.

Your pancakes don’t have to be sweet of course. You can serve them with savoury fillings. And you can serve them all year round too. So if you’re buying a packet for Shrove Tuesday, buy two and store in your larder for later.

Mrs Crimble’s Belgian Chocolate Coconut Stars

And here’s the star of the gluten free show!

I think I may have mentioned how much I like Mrs Crimble’s macaroons. Probably three of four times. Or ten. I also like chocolate. Especially the Belgian stuff. So it was with great joy I got my hands on the recently launched Mrs Crimble’s Belgian Chocolate Coconut Stars.

These are luxurious mini versions of the uber popular bigger macaroons – so taste amazing – and are cute star shapes – so nice and Chrismassy. And we think they make a scrumptious alternative to a box of chocolates for the gluten avoider in your life.

Hint: If anyone comes to my house over Christmas please bring a box of these with you.

Unfortunately by the time I thought about taking a picture most of them had been eaten. If you’ve not tried these before, where have you been? These are moist, chocolatey and cocoanutty. And did you know that Mrs Crimble sells one of these every second. I can see why!

But a very close second and third fave, are the recently launched country fruit slices and lemon slices. The country slice is deliciously moist and packed with plump raisins, cranberries and apricots sitting on a thin pastry base. And the lemon slices are topped with a tangy citrus icing, and are sweet and sharp at the same time. What’s more the slices come in packs of four as well as individually wrapped packs – so perfect for lunch boxes.

Mrs Crimble’s Double Choc Chunk Oat Cookie

Mrs Crimble’s has always been one of our favourite brands at Gluten Free Towers, and we’re always happy to try any new products they send our way.

The latest additions to the range include a Cranberry and Almond Oat Cookie and a Double Choc Chunk Oat Cookie (and how delicious does that sound?).

These gluten free and wheat free delights are big and fat and filling and they’re individually wrapped too. So perfect for an on-the-go snack or to slip into your lunch box.

So the cranberry and almond ones are sweet and nutty as you’d expect, and the chocolate ones are, yep, chocolatey. And the biscuit is crumbly enough that it melts in your mouth but not so crumbly that it’s dry and falls to bits.

As a colleague, said in the office ‘this is everything you want from a cookie.’ Well, you can’t say fairer than that.

Mrs Crimble’s Home Bake Muffin & Sponge Mix

Our lovely friends at Mrs Crimble’s recently sent us one of their home bake mixes to try. We loved this muffin and sponge mix. It’s the perfect store cupboard staple and easy for kids or the culinary challenged to whip up scrummy muffins in moments.

Empty the contents into a bowl, add milk and butter (I used lactose free and a soya substitute), and stir. The good thing about these mixes is that they’re a good base to do your own thing. So I chucked in a bunch of blueberries for a bit of colour and they came out brilliantly! Moist and fluffy and ‘even better than the real thing’ as someone said at work.

Mrs Crimble’s Home Bake Mixes are available from Sainsbury’s and Tesco from £1.81 a packet. And as you get 6 or 7 muffins we think that’s pretty good value.

And they were delish. Light and crunchy but substantial too. And because they’re oven baked and not fried they’re only 90 calories a bag. So all in all a perfect on-the-go or lunch box snack, or a tangy accompaniment to a cheeky G&T in the evening.

Grocery stores such as Sainsbury’s, Asda and Tesco all have their own ‘Free From’ ranges, as well as carrying other gluten free brands. Definitely worth checking out are Sainsbury’s gluten free muffins: they’re moist and sweet and taste like the real thing. And with Christmas coming up fast, it’s worth stocking up on Sainsbury’s gluten free Christmas pudding and gluten free mince pies. These come highly recommended. Delicious!

Tesco’s is another grocery store with their own ‘Free From’ range. Some of our favourites include the gluten free double chocolate cake. As well as cupboard staples like gluten free brown bread and gluten free pitta bread.

Another grocery store with a gluten free range is Asda. We particularly like Asda’s gluten free penne pasta and spirals pasta. These both cook really well and don’t disintegrate into a wallpaper paste consistency like some gluten free pastas.

All the high street grocery stores carry other gluten free brands such as Glutano, Kelkin, Tru Free, Orgran, and Juvela. Don’t forget to try Mrs Crimble as well, now available in most of the major supermarkets. The gluten free chocolate macaroons are amazing. But will you be able to stop at one?
